Something about the term has bothered me for a long time. Perhaps it is the modern trend towards forgive and forget where the first part of the phrase is forgotten. With the big push from DC towards turning illegal-immigrants into just plain immigrants, perhaps it is time to adapt the terminology to clarify things.
It strikes me that a better term might be border-criminal. This clearly states the nature of the individual and the type of offense without granting "immigrant" status. They're simply a criminal living on soil that is foreign to them.
That's my idea. Who has a better one? |
