[Ben]:For those who still have faith in the space frontier ... Discuss This [1 comment so far] View Comments
On Tuesday I posted the following:
If this were a sci-fi story, we'd all hop into our spaceships and head for the stars, or we'd rebel and throw rocks from Luna. But that story is not to be, and I have serious doubts that any private effort to escape terrestrial government through space travel would be allowed to succeed, even if we had the capability.

Today (I'm writing this on Wednesday) I read this report from the Washington Post on the new National Space Policy.

I quote:
President Bush has signed a new National Space Policy that rejects future arms-control agreements that might limit U.S. flexibility in space and asserts a right to deny access to space to anyone "hostile to U.S. interests."

I fully understand the reasons behind this decision, but I also feel certain it serves to bolster my position that existing Government will not tolerate escaping its control. Surely any such action would be "hostile to U.S. interests."
